Outdoor Living Built for Apache Shores

Apache Shores is a special lakeside community in the Lake Travis area, and GardenGOAT has spent over five years helping homeowners here build outdoor spaces that work with the hilly terrain. Located off RR 620 in western Travis County, Apache Shores has lake access, big views, and a quiet, rural feel, all just minutes from Lakeway and Bee Cave.

Landscaping here is harder than in most Austin neighborhoods. The steep hills mean many lots need retaining walls, terracing, and erosion control before any planting starts. The rocky limestone soil has very little topsoil, so picking the right plants and building up the soil matters a lot. Deer, wild turkeys, and other wildlife visit Apache Shores yards often. We use deer-resistant plants and smart strategies to keep your yard looking good.

Whether your property sits on a hillside with lake views or on a wooded lot near Mansfield Dam and Park, GardenGOAT knows how to make the most of your outdoor space. We build landscapes that handle the slope, grow in rocky soil, and let you enjoy what makes Apache Shores so great.

About Us

Creating Beautiful Yards in Apache Shores

  • Apache Shores has some of the toughest terrain for landscaping in the Austin area. The steep lots have rocky limestone with just a thin layer of topsoil. Regular planting beds often fail here without adding a lot of new soil. Erosion is a big problem. Heavy rains can wash away bare slopes fast, so retaining walls and good grading are a must. The area also gets strong winds and harsh sun bouncing off Lake Travis. Deer are everywhere, with herds walking through yards all the time. We pick deer-resistant plants like cenizo, rosemary, agarito, and mountain laurel. Water supply can be limited, and Lake Travis levels go up and down, which changes waterfront properties a lot. We plan irrigation and plant choices around all of this, helping homeowners keep nice yards even during dry spells and water restrictions.

  • We work with homeowners all across Apache Shores and the Lake Travis area. Our projects include homes along Comanche Trail, Apache Trail, and the winding roads that lead down to the lake. We work near Mansfield Dam and Park, one of the most popular spots in the area. We serve lakefront homes and homes up on the ridge with wide views. We also work in Lakeway, Bee Cave, Hudson Bend, Steiner Ranch, and the Volente area. Whether you have a cozy cabin tucked among the junipers or a bigger custom home above the lake, we know how to handle the tricky access, steep slopes, and material delivery that come with working in this part of the Hill Country.

  • Apache Shores is different from most Austin neighborhoods because of its rural, lakeside feel. Lot sizes range from small homesites to multi-acre properties, and many sit on steep slopes that need custom terracing and retaining walls before any landscaping can start. Unlike nearby HOA communities, Apache Shores gives homeowners more freedom with their yards. But the land itself sets the rules. The native Ashe juniper, Texas persimmon, and live oak that grow wild here give us a natural starting point to build from. Water and irrigation are big concerns. Many homes use well water or local systems with limited supply. Materials like native limestone and decomposed granite look great here. They blend with the surroundings and use less water. Many homeowners want fire pits, stone patios, and viewing decks to enjoy their lake and hill views. We design those spaces to feel like a natural part of the land.
