Outdoor Living Pros in Steiner Ranch, TX | Landscape Design & Construction

Steiner Ranch Yards, Designed to Thrive

Steiner Ranch is one of northwest Austin’s top planned communities, and GardenGOAT has been helping homeowners here create great outdoor spaces for over five years. Built in phases since the 1990s, Steiner Ranch has a range of home styles and lot sizes. Older sections near the Steiner Ranch Steakhouse have mature landscaping. Newer builds near the community trails and Balcones Canyonlands Preserve are still filling in. We know how Steiner Ranch properties differ from section to section, and we design each one to fit.

The limestone ground throughout Steiner Ranch makes landscaping tough. Shallow, rocky soil means you have to pick the right plants and prep the soil well for anything to last. Many homes sit on hilly lots with canyon views or look out over Lake Austin. These slopes need good grading, retaining walls, and erosion control. Deer are a fact of life here. They walk right through yards next to the preserve and trails. So we always design with deer-proof plants that still give you color and shape through the seasons.

Steiner Ranch’s HOA has specific rules for how yards should look, and we know those rules well. We work within them while still making your outdoor space stand out. Whether you want a backyard getaway with Hill Country views, a new front yard with drought-tough plants, or an outdoor kitchen near the community pools, GardenGOAT brings the design skill and building quality that Steiner Ranch homeowners expect. We handle every detail from first idea through final walkthrough.

About Us

What Steiner Ranch Homeowners Say About Us

  • Steiner Ranch sits on classic Texas Hill Country limestone, and the landscaping problems match. The soil is shallow and rocky with very little organic matter. You often hit solid rock just inches below the surface. That means you need raised beds, brought-in topsoil, and creative planting plans. The hilly land throughout Steiner Ranch means many homes sit on steep slopes. Without good retaining walls, terracing, and erosion control, soil and mulch wash away in heavy rains. Deer are probably the single biggest headache for Steiner Ranch gardeners. Herds come through the community every day from the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve and trail areas. They will eat almost anything that is not deer-proof. Summer temps often top 100 degrees. The mix of heat, rocky ground, and Austin Water limits makes irrigation design very important. Systems need to get water to roots without waste. Older sections of Steiner Ranch have aging irrigation and basic builder landscaping that is starting to fail. GardenGOAT handles all of these Steiner Ranch problems with proven solutions.

  • GardenGOAT serves homeowners throughout the Steiner Ranch community, including all of its sections and phases. We work from the earlier areas near Steiner Ranch Boulevard and the Steiner Ranch Steakhouse to the newer phases closer to the western edges. Steiner Ranch residents enjoy plenty of perks, like community pools, sports courts, parks, playgrounds, and a big trail system that connects to the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve. We serve homes near River Place Country Club, the Steiner Ranch Elementary and Laura Welch Bush Elementary school zones, and the neighborhoods with popular Lake Austin views. We also work in nearby communities like River Place, the Four Points area, Grandview Hills, and other northwest Austin neighborhoods along Ranch Road 620 and the RM 2222 corridor. No matter which part of Steiner Ranch you call home, we bring local know-how to every project.

  • Steiner Ranch has been built over many years. Homes range from the mid-1990s to brand new, and the landscaping needs are very different by age and section. Older homes often have yards that are past their prime, with overgrown foundation plants, failing irrigation, and worn-out hardscape that needs a refresh. Newer homes usually come with basic builder landscaping that homeowners want to upgrade and make their own. The Steiner Ranch HOA has rules about front yard design, fence types, plant heights, and upkeep, and we know these rules inside and out. Deer-proof plants are a must across the whole community. We use proven picks like mountain laurel, cenizo, damianita, autumn sage, blackfoot daisy, and native grasses like sideoats grama and Lindheimer muhly. Many Steiner Ranch properties have stunning hillside or canyon views. The landscape design should frame and show off those views, not block them. Irrigation systems need to work with rocky soil, slopes, and different sun levels across the lot. We design with smart controllers and drip zones that keep water bills low while keeping your landscape healthy through the long Steiner Ranch summers.
